Why should I join the IBEW?

Why should you become an IBEW member?

When workers join together in a union, they can ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity in the workplace. As IBEW union members, we choose to bargain collectively with our employers to secure safe working conditions, proper training, professional wages, family health benefits, and a fully funded retirement plan for the future. With a well negotiated working agreement, our union members have legal protections they would not have been able to achieve on their own. When you join IBEW, you have direct access to employment opportunities with the best employers in the electrical industry.

We Promote Fairness & Productivity in the Workplace through Collective Bargaining

Collective bargaining involves discussions and negotiations between labor and management committees to determine the terms and conditions of employment. It is called ‘collective’ because both the employer and the employee act as a group rather than as individuals. It is known as ‘bargaining’ because the method of reaching an agreement involves proposals and counter proposals, offers and counter offers. This provides a process in which representatives of both labor and management participate in a professional environment to negotiate & implement a fair, sustainable working agreement.

What are the benefits of being an IBEW member?

When you join IBEW, you expect to have the most opportunity to secure the best pay and benefits in the industry. And you do! Our members have adequately established and maintained fair wages and benefits for their labor. Our strength in numbers equates to bargaining power to improve wages. Our collective working agreements help to achieve a higher standard of living for all in the electrical construction industry.

As an IBEW member, you will:

  • have an equal voice in your union.

  • have a career as a construction professional.

  • have opportunities for continuing education & training.

  • be able to earn qualifications that are accepted nationwide.

  • be working among some of the best electricians in the industry.

  • have access to employment opportunities with multiple employers.

  • be able to earn one of the best wage and benefits packages in the area.

  • have wages and benefits that will be the same from job to job and/or employer to employer.
